Abbaye Des Vaux De Cernay

Cernay-La-Ville, France

Beautiful hotel renovation within the grounds of a former cistercian monastery, by Paris Society and Cordelia de Castellane.

This unique hotel features areas and rooms that date back to the XII Century. As a result, the lighting design aporach had to follow minimal intervention and careful consideration, given the historical nature of the architectural fabric. Cordelia and her team focused on restoring decorative lighting elements throughout, rather than adhering new lighting strategies.

To make the most of the newly designed areas and interior decoration, a very warm colour temperature was selected for the public areas and guest rooms, to resemble candle light as much as possible.

Some of the most protected areas (including the historic abbey ruins, with UNESCO heritage status) were given only a very minor upgrade of lighting equipment or re-lamping, in order to reduce any invasive works.
